Lava Rock beads are made from cooled down molten Basalt. In order for rock to melt, it has to reach temperatures as high as 1,000 degrees Celsius beneath a volcano. When a volcano erupts, hot molten rock spills out and flows away as lava until it becomes cool, solid, porous and black. Lava beads have gained in popularity in contemporary jewelry design. They are irregular in shape with sponge-like textures which are easy to carve and cut and very lightweight and comfortable to wear.
