Aquamarine is a member of the Beryl family of gem stones. As its name indicates, meaning sea water, aquamarines range from sea blue and sea green to blue grey and deep blue shades. In the 19th century the preferred color of aquamarine was sea green, today it is sea blue. Aquamarine is dichroic, appearing blue or colorless as the stone is viewed from different angles.
